While I was waiting for my wash cycle to finish at the Laundromat yesterday I happened to catch a few minutes of the new Tim Allen sit-com.
The plot of this particular episode involved a boy spending the night in one of his daughters' rooms.
When confronted with her father's insecurity concerning what might have taken place during the evening, the daughter replied, "Nothing happened."
Her father then said, "I don't believe you."
She then threatened that she was moving out, and stomped off screen in a huff.
What I wanted her to ask was, "Are you calling me a liar?"
Because...that's what he was doing. She assured him that nothing happened, and he called her a liar.
Now, it's possible that she is a liar. It's possible that this scene, completely out of context, could seem rational from the father's perspective. Heck, I'm not even down on the idea that parents shouldn't be allowed to dictate the kind of behavior that goes on under their roofs, but if she's old enough to be able to afford moving out...then she should be old enough to have a rational conversation without accusations of lying.
The scene angered me.
