Agony of de feets
Sep. 18th, 2011 11:53 pmToday I experienced my first official defeat versus Couch to 5K.
I don't really count the time I tripped, fell, and scraped the ever living bejeebus out of my leg, because that was more a defeat versus gravity, than the running program itself. Where as today? Today is was all about me not being able to do it.
I'm at Week 5/Day 3, which for those playing at home entails jogging for 20 minutes straight. I put four of my favorite songs on this playlist and set out to glacially jog my way through it. I got through the 5 minute prep walk like a champ. Even made it through the first two songs on the playlist pretty easily. The third song I barely made it through, that's only because I told myself I would stop after it ended. I walked the last song, only to be mocked by the final song on the playlist: "Still Alive" by Jonathan Coulton.
I meant to rewind the last song that had kicked my ass, "When the World Ends" the Oakenfold remix of Dave Matthews, but...was so defeated in my defeat that I just...walked. Did I mention the defeat? Because...it was there. Being all defeaty like.
I've resolved to redo the day on Tuesday, after taking it easy for the next day or so. My Achilles tendons have been acting up something fierce. You would think that someone who'd just finished a year's worth of grad level work in Anatomy and Physiology would know what to do about such a thing, but you'd be wrong.
I honestly had no idea that the burning sensation in my heel was the result of my calf muscles being too tight. So now I'm making an effort to stretch the bastards even more. I just now completed an icing. I'll do another one in the morning, then during lunch, and when I return from Improv tomorrow night.
Have to say though, wow do they both feel so much better after the icing. Who knew?
The internet, that's who.
