Yesterday I took Grace to the vet.

It's something that should have been done months ago, and when I say that I'm not being hyperbolic. Her Rabies vaccination ran out in June, so yeah...Bad Cat Mommy, thy name is Bing.

Her highly recommended vet is across town, in an area I'm only just now becoming familiar with, and even though it's possible and quite easy to get from point A to point B via public transportation there's no way in hell I'm putting my cat through that. It'd be like...a train and two buses at very least. And on one of the colder days of the year? Fat freakin' chance.

I'd planned on renting a car, but Rocker Bing has suggested time and time again that I can borrow her car for errands when she's working so...I thought I'd take her up on it. This mean getting from my office to her's. A feat I managed rather easily with the well timed appearance of not just one but two buses. Go Bus-fu!

The next hurdle was getting the car from the garage. There was a whole thing about tickets and validation and...it was confusion.

Stage three was the part I thought would draw the most actual blood: getting the cat into the carrier and then the carrier into the car. While it didn't go quite as easily as it could have, normally she just walks right in, it was a bloodless transition.

Stage four: getting from my house to the vet at five pm on a Thursday. Needless to say I was late by ten minutes because I got caught in traffic and then couldn't find a place to park. Good news there was that no one saw, or got hurt, when I went the wrong way down that one way. Yay for me!

The vet visit itself was painless...for me. Grace weathered it well once they got her out of the carrier. Seriously, that cat has some sweet ninja moves because they were holding the carrier perpendicular to the examination table and she was still not budging. I was impressed. Still am, actually.

Apparently she has a heart murmur, and has lost over a pound in the year and a half since she'd been seen last. Neither of these things is great, but...only more testing will tell if they're actually bad. There's some concern that she could have some pancreas issues, or maybe it's kidney, or quite possibly intestinal. Really...until the bloodwork comes back there's nothing to be done other than offer her more food, which I've been doing.

Though she officially now has her first maintenance medication in the form of a vitamin supplement that's supposed to help her joints. Poor thing doesn't jump nearly as well/high/often as she used to. Something that shouldn't be surprising given that she's thirteen years old.

The return trip was easier than the one out there, and for that I'm thankful. She was happy to be home and was overly affectionate towards me after he release from the carrier.

I returned the car to the garage and hung out for a little while with Rocker before bolting to catch a bus home.

That was my day.
The end.
