Those of you playing at home might remember that reading a Book a Month was among my list of resolutions for the craptastic year that we're calling Two Aught Fourteen.

Whelp! I'm a little behind schedule, but as of Friday I have finished my first book.
"Salt: A World History" has officially been shifted from my "Reading" to "Read" shelf on Goodreads. GO ME!

Brief review:

I liked it. It was very interesting, though I thought it did tend to be a little Euro/Western-centric at times. I learned far more about salt than I did before I started, so I guess that's a win. If you like history, in particular food history, I'd totally recommend it.
You can even borrow my copy. Or have it really, because I don't know that I'll ever get around to reading it again, unless I want to find a good recipe for Herring, or Garum.

Since it took me three months to read what should have taken one, I'm giving myself a pass on March. Instead of reading an actual paper-page book, I'm going to read many paper-page graphic novels...of which I have accumulated many. Kind of hard not to when you go to as many Geek Cons as I do.

Today I finally restarted, and finished Gene Yang's "Boxers," with "Saints" being next on my agenda. I quite liked "Boxers," though it did make me want to punch a Christian Missionary. Hard. In the face. Hard. It's kind of the same reaction I had after watching the movie, "Agora."

But I digress.

At the moment the Graphic Novel queue looks like this:

"Saints" - Gene Yang
"Pang: The Wandering Shaolin Monk" Vol 2 - Ben Costa
"Jobnik: An American Girl's Adventures in the Isreali Army" - Miriam Libnicki
"Crogan's Vengeance" - Chris Schweizer
"Primates: The Fearless Science of Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Birute Galdikas" - Jim Ottaviani and Maris Wicks.

Point of note:
I've had the extreme honor of getting to meet the creators of each of these works, and they are all delightful people. Well...except Jim Ottaviani, who I have not met. Though, he could easily be delightful as well.

I'm not quite sure where I picked up the first "Pang" book, but I might have squeaked in delight at stumbling across the second one. "Oh NICE! There's a new Pang book! When did this come out?" I asked the people behind the table. "Uh...today actually," replied the creator...who I hadn't see standing there. Then I might have fangirled at him.

Chris Schweizer is hands down one of the nicest con professionals I've ever talked to. He just seemed genuinely happy to be there. Plus he had sweet art prints like: An Old West Avengers print, or a great Visit Innsmouth! postcard, as well as a fantastic Usagi Yojimbo pic. So he just kind of wins all around.

Maris Wicks used to work at the Boston Aquarium, and I spent far too long talking to her at last year's Boston Comic Con. We knew people in common, and I wanted very much to steal her and make her be my friend, but apparently that's not how one makes friends. It should be! I should be able to just steal cool people.

Anyhow. So good. Much read.
