I was going to try and spell it phonetically, but it'd be a lot of "doo"s, and seeing as this post is going to be about my trek to the doctor yesterday, that seemed uncouth.
Even for me.
So you know this right? The story? About how about 4 years ago I got it into my mind to start jogging in preparation for a Zombie Themed 5k Obstacle course? How I not only did Couch to 5K but I also took an introductory Rock Climbing class to help me with my issues regarding heights?
And how, once I completed that race, I wound up with six months worth of giardia? And that the symptoms of which have lingered for the last couple of years?
Yeah, there's a reason for that: I've always had IBS.
I've never really done anything about it, medically, because it's always been a very mild thing. Maybe a handful of "episodes" a year. Nothing major...until it is.
Well it's been in a varying state of is since Zombies.
Three years ago I was hospitalized for a couple of days for a kidney infection that was a side effect of the aforementioned is.
Well, the novelty of that Is has finally worn off, and yesterday I went to the doctor. Partly I was there for a physical, because it's been a freakin' dog's age since I've had one, but mostly I was there to get the ball rolling to find a specialist.
I left with a couple of prescriptions that I got filled last night. Add that to the prescription I had filled a couple of days ago, and the Pro-Biotic that came highly recommended by a nurse practitioner friend of mine, and my dresser top officially looks like a pharmacy.
What I'm currently mulling over is which of these things to I want to start taking first, due to my week long vacation next week. I'm hesitant to start any new therapy under what I'm going to call "Experimental Conditions."
I just...want to get started do quickly, because I want to start feeling better as soon as possible. I want to be back where I was before that stupid race. Where I could jog and bike and eat pretty much what ever I wanted.
Except for fresh jalapenos. Good god, no jalapenos.
Even for me.

Date: 2015-03-20 02:04 am (UTC)I'm not diagnosed, but I'm symptomatic, for sure. I have had a lot of luck cutting more dairy out of my diet. The switch from cow milk to almond milk made my life a lot less gurgly. I still eat dairy, because we loves it, precious, but the decrease was just enough to make a big difference. It might be something to try, anyway, to help the pro-biotic process.
I hope you feel much better VERY quickly.
